Apart from the Mediterranean Sea and the Red
Sea, Franco Chiossi's search for stimulating underwater settings has taken
him to plunge into the waters of various areas of the world:
- in the Caribbean Sea: the Dominican Republic,
the Bahamas, Cuba, the Cayman Islands;
- in Florida, U.S.A.;
- in the Indian Ocean: Kenya, Maldive Islands,
the Seychelles and Mauritius;
- in the Pacific Ocean: Malaysia, at Sipadan,
Mabul, Kapalai and Layang Layang; the Philippines, at Cebu, Bohol, Negros; Indonesia,
at Kalimantan (Derawan, Maratua, Kakaban, Sangalaki), at Sulawesi (Manado, Lembeth, Walea, Makassar), Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa,
Komodo and Flores.
His interest in photography dates back in the
time he was a schoolboy, while his special interest in underwater photography
started in 1994, when he used a Nikonos V with the dedicated lenses 15mm,
28mm and 35mm and macro extension tubes.
In June 1998, he was awarded the First Prize
in the First Underwater Extemporary Competition organized by the "Mondo
Sommerso" magazine at Sharm el Sheik, Egypt.
In 1998, he photographed with a Nikon F90X
in Hughyfot and Underwave case, while at the present time he is using a
Nikon F100 with the Nikon lenses 16mm, 20mm, 60mm and 105mm micro, as well
as Sygma 14mm and underwater flashes Nikon SB 105 and Subtronic Megacolor.
He employs Fuji Velvia and Sensia reversal films.
